Categories and category groups
Categories describe what each transaction is for. Category groups keep related categories together.
Income and expense categories
Income categories are used for money coming in. Expense categories are used for spending. This distinction affects reports and budget totals.
Groups
Create groups for broad areas like Housing, Food, Transport, Subscriptions, or Income. Groups make large category lists easier to scan.
Budget impact
Budget rows are tied to categories. If categories are too broad, budgets become vague. If they are too narrow, maintenance becomes noisy.
